This was my favorite project in Metal I because of how much I could hand manipulate the material. I started with a simple shape of a square with a hole punched out of it and curved them. I made about one hundred units to play around with. The shape lent itself to a lot of interesting joinery and curvatures. My final pieces came out of a dozen or so predecessors but then the challenge was connecting them. My final is the three pieces because I spent two weeks just working with connections. One has been saudered, another interlocked by rings and the third and most effective, is a tension fit.
Set up for the Risd Industrial Design Triennial Show.
The three final connections.
The Tension Connection
The Saudered Connection
The Ring Connection
My favorite by product of all the experimentation.
